Known for their accuracy and attention to detail, Aoshima's precision Waterline Series focuses on naval ship models, depicting the ship's structure from the waterline and above. Models in this series are designed to be seen as if floating on the water, highlighting the above-water structure, whilst also making for a more practical and space-efficient display on a flat surface.

Named after a river in central Japan, Jintsū was the second of three Sendai-class light cruisers built for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) in the twenties; she - and the rest of the class - was designed to serve as the flagship of a destroyer flotilla.

Jintsū featured in various campaigns during the Second World War, including the Japanese invasion of the Philippines, the Battle of the Java Sea, and the Solomon Islands campaigns. Jintsū was also one of the many vessels sent in an unsuccessful pursuit of the American carrier force that launched the Doolittle Raid.

The Battle of Kolombangara saw the end of Jintsū: while illuminating the Allied fleet with searchlights, to highlight targets for the Japanese ships, she was hit by at least ten six-inch shells and a subsequent torpedo, breaking in two and sinking in almost 3,000' of water.

Aoshima's precision Waterline Series model kit shows Jintsū as she would have appeared in 1942.
