The Object 279 was an experimental heavy breakthrough tank produced by the Soviet Union at the end of the fifties. Despite being a heavy tank, the Object 279 had a number of features - including four sets of tracks - designed to enable it to cross the most difficult and devastated terrain imaginable.
This tank was also intended to be able to fight and survive during a nuclear war, and included full NBC protection systems.
In the end, only one example was built (which survives at Kubinka, apparently recently restored to running condition); the Object 279 was one of the victims of Krushchev's culling of heavy Soviet tanks in 1960.
Takom's 1/35 scale kit can be assembled in two different ways, including the 130 mm armed one at Kubinka, and a proposed 'M' variant with an even bigger 152 mm main gun. The suspension can also be assembled in two different configurations.
