With the introduction of newer - and much heavier - tank designs as WW2 progressed, the German Army found that its existing recovery vehicles were starting to struggle; where a single half-track could recover something like a Pz IV, several were needed to retrieve something like a Tiger.

Consequently the Bergepanther was developed, and had the heft needed to recover the new heavy armour that was being deployed. Bergepanthers were essentially Panther hulls, with the turret replaced with a powerful winch, and various other recovery equipment.

Takom's 1/35 scale model kit includes a full interior and PE parts, and represents a Bergepanther derived from the later G model Panther.
