New from AK Interactive: Playmarkers for Modelers and Gamers Alike
Posted by Andy's Hobby Headquarters Canada on 2025 May 7th
We're thrilled to finally be back with new product reviews and build videos. The new superstore is up and running, which means it’s time to dive into something exciting that just landed in our shop — AK Interactive’s new Playmarkers Master Set.
While these markers are marketed for tabletop gamers, I think modelers like us are going to find a lot of value in them. Whether you're working on armor, aircraft, or figures, this set is packed with features that make painting faster, cleaner, and more accessible — even when you don’t want to fire up the airbrush.
Fast, Flexible Painting for Model Builders
If you’ve used AK’s Real Color markers before, you’ll notice some key improvements here. The Play Markers feature a fine, flexible brush tip that gives you the feel of a paintbrush with the convenience of a pen. That means:
-
No mess
-
No setup
-
Instant access to color for quick jobs or small touch-ups
Need to paint road wheels, edges, or tiny details? Just pull the cap, give it a shake, prime the tip with the built-in plunger, and you're ready to go.
What’s in the Master Set?
This 34-marker Master Set includes the full range of colors currently available from AK Interactive for the Playmarkers line. The markers come in a sturdy magnetic box similar to the Real Color sets — easy to store and transport. Here’s a quick breakdown of what you get:

Performance on Plastic and Primer
To test them out, I used a sprue from our upcoming HHQ010 M3 kit. I tried the markers both on bare plastic and primed plastic (Mr. Surfacer 1000), and I was impressed:
-
On bare plastic: The paint went on smoothly, dried flat, and didn’t lift with multiple coats.
-
On primed surfaces: Even better adhesion and consistent finish.
The flexible brush tip stayed sharp and delivered great control, even when painting at awkward angles. And best of all, layering colors — like silver over black — worked without smearing or lifting the underlying layer.
Waterproof, Fast-Drying Acrylic
The Playmarkers use a waterproof acrylic paint that dries quickly to a matte finish. This is ideal for modelers who want speed without compromising quality. You can even handle your parts shortly after painting without worrying about smudges.
Now Available at Andy’s HQ

Final Thoughts
While these were designed for tabletop gaming, the color range, fine tips, and ease of use make them a fantastic tool for scale modelers. From figure painting to vehicle detailing, you’ll find plenty of uses for this set.
I’m especially looking forward to using the wood tones and metallics in upcoming builds — and now that the studio is almost fully set up, those builds are coming soon.
If you’re curious about the Playmarkers or want to try a faster way to get paint on plastic, I highly recommend checking them out.
