The Hummel (Sd.Kfz. 165) was a self-propelled artillery vehicle used by Germany during World War II. Introduced in 1943, the Hummel was designed to provide mobile artillery support for fast-moving panzer divisions. It was armed with a 150 mm s.FH 18/1 L/30 howitzer, capable of firing 43 kg shells up to 13 kilometers. The vehicle was built on a hybrid chassis that combined elements from the Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks, allowing it to achieve good cross-country mobility. The Hummel could carry 18 rounds of ammunition for its main gun, and it also featured a 7.92mm MG34 machine gun for self-defence.

The Hummel first saw action in the Battle of Kursk, where it played a significant role in providing indirect fire support. Over 700 units were produced between early 1943 and early 1945. Despite its open-top design, which left the crew vulnerable to small arms fire and shell splinters, the Hummel's effective range and firepower made it a valuable asset in the German artillery arsenal. It was primarily used on the Eastern Front against Soviet forces, where its mobility and firepower were crucial in supporting armoured operations. Post-war, a few Hummels saw limited use with other nations, but most were phased out or scrapped.
