The Raketenjagdpanzer Jaguar 1, also known as the RakJPz 3, was a West German tank destroyer developed in the late 1970s. It was an upgraded version of the earlier Raketenjagdpanzer 2, which had become obsolete by that time. The Jaguar 1 was equipped with the more advanced HOT anti-tank guided missile system, replacing the older SS.11 missiles. The vehicle's design also included enhanced armour, improving its survivability on the battlefield.
The Jaguar 1 served primarily with the German Bundeswehr from 1978 to 2005 and was also used by the Austrian Armed Forces. It was highly regarded for its capability to engage and destroy enemy tanks at long ranges, making it a critical asset during the Cold War era. Later upgrades in the 1990s added modern optics and thermal imaging systems, further enhancing its effectiveness.
