The FM-2 Wildcat was a late-war variant of the Grumman F4F Wildcat, produced by General Motors' Eastern Aircraft Division during World War II. Known for its improved performance over earlier models, the FM-2 featured a more powerful Wright R-1820-56 engine with 1,350 horsepower, as well as a larger vertical tail fin for better stability. It was armed with four .50 caliber machine guns, which allowed for more ammunition per gun, enhancing its combat endurance. This lighter armament also gave the aircraft a better power-to-weight ratio, making it more agile and effective in combat.

The FM-2 Wildcat was primarily used aboard escort carriers, providing air cover for convoys and supporting amphibious landings in the Pacific.
