The Universal Carrier, also known as the Bren Gun Carrier (or just Bren Carrier), was a versatile tracked vehicle used extensively by British and Commonwealth forces during World War II. Developed in the 1930s, it became one of the most widely produced armored fighting vehicles of the war, with over 113,000 units built.
The Bren Carrier was a light armoured vehicle with a low profile and open-top design, making it agile and suitable for various roles on the battlefield. It typically carried a crew of three to five and was armed with a Bren light machine gun, although it could be equipped with other weapons such as mortars or anti-tank rifles. Its simple yet effective design included a Ford V8 engine, providing adequate speed and mobility across different terrains.
The Universal Carrier served in multiple capacities, including troop transport, reconnaissance, and support roles. Its adaptability allowed it to be used for carrying infantry, towing artillery, laying communication cables, and even as an ambulance. The vehicle's versatility and reliability made it a valuable asset in various theatres of war, from Europe to North Africa and the Pacific.
Gecko's 1/16 scale model kit enables you to recreate the MK II version of the Bren Carrier, complete with a wealth of detail, including the eponymous Bren LMG, Lee Enfield rifles, plus a Sten. The engine is not included, but if you want to add extra detail your build, a matching add-on kit is available separately.
