The Universal Military Pod was developed to enhance the transport capabilities of the CH-54 Tarhe heavy-lift helicopter, introduced in 1962. Designed to safely carry infantry, wounded personnel, and military equipment like guns or light vehicles, the pod features windows, doors, and a rear ramp for easy loading and unloading. It can also be used for parachute deployment or towed by military vehicles if necessary. A total of 22 pods were built, each with their own unique military registration number​.

ICM's 1/35 scale model kit comprises 127 parts (including clear parts) for the pod itself, and also includes an M8A1 Landing Mat, to allow an accurate recreation of the pod in situ. The pod includes a full interior for maximum accuracy.
