Flak-Bait is a B-26 Marauder medium bomber used by the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. It gained fame for surviving an extraordinary number of combat missions - 206 in total* - despite sustaining extensive damage from anti-aircraft fire, or 'flak', throughout its service in the European Theatre. The aircraft was part of the 322nd Bomb Group, and became a symbol of resilience due to its ability to return safely from numerous dangerous sorties, often heavily damaged.

The name 'Flak-Bait' was a play on the aircraft's frequent encounters with flak (and derived from a nickname for the first pilot's family dog!), and its survival is a testament to both the durability of the B-26 Marauder and the skill of its crews. Flak-Bait now holds a special place in aviation history and is preserved at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, where its legacy continues to be honoured as a remarkable example of wartime endurance.

Recreate this most remarkable aircraft with ICM's 1/48 scale model kit, complete with all the markings you would expect (including the half-dozen ducks for decoy missions!).

*There is some debate over this number. There are 207 symbols painted on the side of the original Flak-Bait's fuselage; the 207th is a swastika denoting an enemy aircraft that was shot down by the plane's gunners, rather than a distinct mission.
