The Sd.Kfz. 234 series was a family of German eight-wheeled armoured cars used during World War II. These vehicles were powered by a Tatra V12 diesel engine, providing excellent mobility and a range of up to 1,000 kilometers. The series included four main variants, each equipped with different armaments tailored to specific battlefield roles. The Sd.Kfz. 234/1 was armed with a 20mm autocannon, the Sd.Kfz. 234/2 'Puma' with a 50mm gun, the Sd.Kfz. 234/3 with a 75mm howitzer for infantry support, and the Sd.Kfz. 234/4 with a 75mm anti-tank gun.
The Sd.Kfz.234/2 with 'Luchs' Turret was a rare beast: later in the war, with their fortunes declining, Germany sometimes produced odd variants of existing platforms - apparently using whatever bits they had to hand - and this was one such machine. It is unknown how many were produced, but it could be as few as one; the only confirmed photograph being taken later in the war when one of these oddities surrendered to the Americans in Czechoslovakia.
