The Horten H.IX, RLM designation Ho 229 (or Gotha Go 229 for extensive re-design work done by Gotha to prepare the aircraft for mass production) was a German prototype fighter/bomber designed by Reimar and Walter Horten to be built by Gothaer Waggonfabrik. Developed during a late stage of the Second World War, it was one of the first flying wing aircraft to be powered by jet engines.

The development of jet engines seemed a natural fit with large winged gliders, and so came the almost mythical Ho 229. The Smithsonian Museum in the United States still has one, in a constant state of restoration. This kit promises to be very popular amongst Luftwaffe model kit fans and those looking for something different from the World War II era.

The kit captures the unique and, at the time, revolutionary wing shape, plus the cockpit, gear, and armaments with quite good detail. Being a two-seater night fighter, two pilot figures in seating position are included along with an elongated cockpit to fit both. There are several posing options with this kit: you may set the gear up or down, with an extensive interior section around the open engines, andf the cockpit can be posed open or closed. Also, the wings and the engine covers can be removed to show the engines underneath. The airframe is basically the same as in the Ho 229A (sold separately), plus the radar antennae and the air-to-air missiles that were in planning stage at the moment.
