The G6 Rhino is a 155mm self-propelled howitzer developed by South Africa in the 1980s to address the need for long-range, highly mobile artillery. Known for its exceptional range and accuracy, the G6 can fire standard rounds up to 30km, with rocket-assisted projectiles extending its reach to 50km or more. This makes it one of the most formidable wheeled howitzers of its class. Its six-wheeled chassis gives the G6 high mobility, even in rough terrain, and its design ensures rapid deployment and firing, with the ability to fire within 60 seconds of stopping.

The G6 Rhino also features robust armor protection for its crew of six, shielding them from small arms fire, shell splinters, and even landmines. Its semi-automatic loading system allows for efficient firing rates, and it carries up to 45 rounds onboard. First introduced in the late 1980s, it has seen combat in conflicts such as the Angolan Border War and more recently in Yemen, where it was used by the United Arab Emirates. The G6 remains a key asset in South African artillery, with some upgraded variants, like the G6-52, offering even longer range and improved automation​.
