The VK 45.02(H) was a German heavy tank prototype developed during World War II as a potential successor to the Tiger I. Designed by Henschel, this project featured a similar structure to the Tiger II, with variants proposing either a forward or rear-mounted turret. Although it was designed with heavier armour and the powerful 88mm gun, the VK 45.02(H) in this form never really advanced beyond the blueprint stage; this design was a stepping-stone that eventually evolved into the familiar Tiger II.
Takom's nicely detailed 1/35 scale model kit of the VK 45.02(H) draft blueprint w 1461 allows you to create an interesting snapshot along the way to the Tiger II: the hull is still very 'Tiger I', with similar road wheels and the almost vertical glacis, while the turret is pretty close to the early production (and incorrectly named!) 'Porsche' turret of the first batch of Tiger IIs.
