The Project 658M boats were Soviet nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs): part of early efforts by the Soviet Navy during the Cold War to develop a sea-based nuclear deterrent. Originally designed as Project 658 (NATO reporting name: Hotel-class), and based on the earlier November-class SSNs; the 658M was an upgraded version.
The Hotels were armed with ballistic missiles and played a key role in nuclear deterrence. The 'M' version modifications primarily enhanced missile system capabilities (the original Hotel Is had to surface to fire their missiles), and operational range, making them more effective for strategic missions during their time in service.
Over a foot long when assembled, Takom's substantial 1/350 scale model kit allows you to recreate this significant part of early Cold War military history. PE parts are included, to maximise detail, as are three different types of markings. The missile launch tubes can be modelled open or closed.
