Arming Taiwan (more properly, the Republic of China) has been a tricky business for many years, due to a number of political considerations; the CM-11 Brave Tiger Main Battle Tank was born from this situation.
Brave Tiger (also known as the M48H Patton, with 'H' standing for 'hybrid') is a bit of a chimaera: the hull is that of the M60A3, the turret is that of the older M48A3, while the fire control etc. is straight out of the Abrams. The commander's cupola is an Israeli design - lower profile, to avoid being spotted from the mainland!
Most of this tank's likely adversaries are armed with powerful 125 mm main guns, against which its armour is on the thin side; consequently, the ROC Army is looking to incorporate Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) into the design.
Takom have produced a detailed 1/35 scale recreation of this rather curious beast.
